Pierrick Bouley
Located in Volnay, a renowned village of the Côte de Beaune, the Burgundy estate of young Pierrick Bouley is the protagonist of expressions of exceptional elegance and stylistic precision, resulting from a highly genuine agronomic and enological approach. Pierrick, who loves to define himself as a winemaker even before an enologist, represents the sixth generation of the Bouley family in viticulture. After working full-time for 5 years at the family winery, previously known as R & P Bouley, in 2014 the vigneron took over the Domaine from his parents, immediately steering the estate's philosophy towards sustainability.
The Domaine Pierrick Bouley has just under 10 hectares of vineyards, spread over more than 40 micro-parcels and characterized by an average age of about 50 years, a factor that naturally leads to limited yields in grapes. Since 2023, the estate has obtained organic certification, and the agronomic management adopted by Pierrick is also inspired by the principles of biodynamic agriculture. The varieties cultivated are the traditional ones, namely Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gamay, and Aligoté, rooted in predominantly clay-limestone soils and carefully tended by the winemaker. Once the right stage of ripeness is reached, manual harvesting and careful selection of the bunches take place, which are then entirely destemmed and vinified through spontaneous fermentations, without the use of selected yeasts, enzymes, and selected bacteria. Furthermore, since 2017, no sulfur has been used in the winemaking process, with sulfites added only after malolactic fermentation or at bottling, if the wine requires it. For the aging phase, Pierrick uses French oak barrels from different forests, with a percentage of new wood ranging from 10% to 30% depending on the label in question.
The focus of Pierrick Bouley's winery selection is the Volnay, expressed in the categories Village and Premier Cru. These are elegant and powerful wines at the same time, as the vigneron likes them, rather structured and vigorous compared to other Pinot Noir of the denomination.
