Pietroso
Pietroso is a small family-run production reality, rooted in one of the most exclusive terroirs in all of Tuscany, that of Montalcino. The winery was founded in 1970 by Domenico Berni, a particularly passionate winemaker, who decided to embark on a journey focused on quality, with low production logic, striving to perfect the few bottles made each harvest. Today, nearly half a century later, it is Domenico's grandson, Gianni Pignattai, who walks steadily and resolutely among the rows of vines, dedicating himself day after day body and soul to his creations.
Pietroso covers about 5 hectares of vineyards, scattered around Montalcino within three different areas: Pietroso, the terroir from which the winery takes its name, Fornello, in the Canalicchi area, and Colombaiolo, towards Sant’Antimo. We are in lands rich in galestro, situated at an altitude between 350 and 450 meters above sea level, perfectly exposed to the sun, which can enjoy favorable climatic conditions throughout the year. In the vineyards, only one grape is cultivated, the Sangiovese, which here is able to give rise to true enological gems, also thanks to the low yields that for Gianni are more than essential.
The spaces dedicated to winemaking and aging, recently renovated, are in an underground room built with natural stone walls, equipped with a highly efficient air conditioning system. Great attention is paid to the refinements, during which the wines expand their profile and their personality, acquiring that essential qualitative thickness. In the range of wines produced each year with great craftsmanship by Pietroso, we find labels that inevitably take on only one color, red. Few bottles, where obviously the Rosso and the Brunello di Montalcino are present, recently also presented with a truly sublime Riserva version, telling us the stylistic signature and the absolute quality of a winery that manages to extract from the Sangiovese flavors and sensations that will leave you more than enchanted.
