Podere il Palazzino
In the renowned area of Chianti Classico, precisely within the municipality of Gaiole in Chianti, lies the Podere il Palazzino winery, dedicated to the cultivation of vines and olive trees since the 1700s, activities that reflect the standards of a traditional Tuscan farm. In fact, the estate is part of a group of structures that were built or restored during the 18th century with the agrarian reform of Grand Duke of Tuscany Pietro Leopoldo. In the mid-1800s, the farm was purchased by the Sderci family, still owners today with brothers Andrea and Alessandro Sderci, now joined by young Edoardo, son of Alessandro.
Podere il Palazzino extends over 20 hectares of land, mostly reserved for vines and to a lesser extent for olive groves. Sangiovese is the main grape variety cultivated, associated with smaller percentages of Colorino, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Malvasia del Chianti, and Trebbiano Toscano. The vineyards, rooted in medium-textured calcareous soils, rich in the characteristic galestro, are mostly worked by hand, excluding the use of harmfulsynthetic chemical substances, such as pesticides and herbicides. To safeguard the health of the plants, the aim is rather to adopt targeted agronomic operations, for example through a rational management of the leaf apparatus to avoid moisture stagnation. The winemaking approach is also respectful of the raw material, with alcoholic fermentation and malolactic fermentation entrusted respectively to indigenous yeasts and lactic acid bacteria. The wines are then aged in oak barriques for periods ranging from 11 to 18 months.
The labels produced by Podere il Palazzino consist solely of red wines capable of fully expressing the typical Chianti character. Among these, the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione ‘Grosso Sanese’ and the ‘Stagi’ stand out, the latter produced with only Colorino, a grape variety traditionally used in blends with other grapes but which the Sderci family has decided to enhance by vinifying it in purity. Completing the range is a dessert wine strongly linked to the identity of the territory: Vin Santo del Chianti Classico.
