Podere Prospero
Podere Prospero is the Tuscan estate of the Venetian family Zenato. Like many other great producers from northern Italy, Zenato has also been captivated by the allure of Bolgheri. The love at first sight happened in the early 2000s when Carla Zenato was traveling with her husband in Tuscany. The encounter with the territory of Bolgheri, with its gently rolling countryside, with the solar brightness of the Mediterranean and with the breath of the sea that comes between the rows of vines, was irresistible. In 2003, Zenato purchased a small estate in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci, near the famous Bolgherese road. For a producer of great reds with native grape varieties from Valpolicella, a new adventure began in the splendid territory of the Costa Toscana and with Bordeaux varieties.
The Bolgheri area has a recent history compared to other classic areas of Tuscany, perhaps also because it is certainly not the most suitable for cultivating Sangiovese. Its fame began with the international success of some great reds made with Bordeaux grape varieties. The rather heterogeneous soils, often of alluvial origin, the mild and breezy climate, influenced by sea breezes, have proven perfect for ripening French red grapes, which have found a true second homeland in Bolgheri. The hills of the inland protect the vineyard area from the cold north-east winds, creating a small paradise kissed by the sun and the Tyrrhenian Sea. The particular microclimate of this corner of the Costa Toscana allows for optimal ripening, with particularly rich and intense aromas.
The Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines of Podere Prospero are located in one of the most prestigious areas of the denomination, along the route that crosses the first inland, running parallel to the coast from Castagneto Carducci to Bolgheri. The agronomic management is carried out with the utmost respect for the environment, in order to harvest healthy and genuine grapes in the winery. Accurate vinifications that are very respectful of the varietal characteristics of the grapes and long aging in noble woods allow the wine to achieve a perfect expressive harmony. The experience of Valpolicella, applied to the lands of Bolgheri, allows for the production of a great red with an international profile, soft and rich, intense and deep, which confirms the excellence of the bottles signed by Zenato.
