Prunotto
The Prunotto winery is one of the most significant realities in the landscape of Piedmontese wine production. Its history dates back to the post-World War I period: founded in 1904 as a social winery, then named "Ai Vini delle Langhe", it was taken over in 1923 by Alfredo Prunotto, who gave it his name. Thanks to the passion of Alfredo and his wife Luigina, the winery quickly gained notoriety and began exporting wines all over the world. In 1956, Prunotto handed over the management of the winery to brothers Beppe and Tino Colla and Carlo Filiberti, who in turn sold it to the Marchesi Antinori family at the end of the 1980s.
Today, the vineyards of the Prunotto winery extend over more than 50 hectares in the territory of the Langhe and Monferrato, divided into small plots and individual crus. The work in the winery is focused on a constant search and experimentation, with continuous evaluation of the methods and timing for caring for the vines and for the production of each single wine, respecting its characteristics and enhancing its best potential.potential. Prunotto has invested in the qualitative development of the vineyard using rootstocks and clones that best adapt to each individual plot. Among the owned vineyards, those of Bussia, Bric Turot, Costamiole, and the vines producing Mompertone and Bricco Colma stand out.
The winery utilizes the most modern technologies to ensure the highest quality of the wines. In particular, great attention has been dedicated to updating aging techniques and renovating the winemaking facilities, where the old 100 hectoliter barrels have been replaced by barriques and medium-sized oak barrels, and where the old concrete tanks have been replaced by steel tanks. The Antinori family has managed to maintain the excellent quality level sought by Alfredo Prunotto, producing some of the best crus of Barolo, Barbaresco, and Barbera. Wines closely linked to the territory and tradition, elegant interpreters of the most prestigious denominations of Piedmont.
