Balugani Roberto
For almost 40 years, Roberto Balugani has skillfully and passionately vinified his own grapes in the old family farmhouse. Here, among the splendid and vast hills of Levizzano Rangone, a hamlet of Castelvetro di Modena, the winemaking traditions are centered on the natural fermentation of wine in the bottle. Roberto has remained faithful to this ancient method, not merely replicating it but reinterpreting it with an innovative spirit. The small production is not limited to traditional sparkling Lambruschi, but also includes sparkling white wines and sparkling wines produced using the classic method.
The vineyards of Roberto Balugani surround the winery and the farmhouse and extend over 7 hectares, with double curtain plantings rooted in clayey hillside soils. The respect for traditional agriculture and common sense farming guide the work in the vineyard: interventions are kept to a minimum and are based on the principle of integrated pest management. Copper, sulfur, organic fertilizers, manure, and cover crops are the protagonists of this virtuous cultivation system. The the winery work is not limited to respecting traditional practices: for a few years now, Roberto has developed a mechanical device that allows for the racking of wines ‘à la volée’ after the sparkling process, cleaning them from fermentation sediments.
The wines of Balugani express all the character of the Emilian winemaking tradition revealing an undisputed quality. Alien to strictly commercial logics, Roberto believes in the value of his work, in the potential of the terroir, and in the strength of tradition. From these premises, sparkling wines of great character are born, characterized by olfactory precision, dry and vertical taste, and an exciting and satisfying ease of drinking.
