Ronchi di Cialla
Ronchi di Cialla is a strictly family-run winery, founded in 1970 by Dina and Paolo Rapuzzi. It takes its name from the small valley where it is located: Cialla, meaning “riviera”, in Prepotto, in the province of Udine. This area enjoys an exceptional microclimate particularly favorable for grape cultivation, whose balance is regulated by the woods of chestnuts, oaks, and wild cherries that embrace the valley. Today, the management of the winery has been joined by the children Ivan and Pierpaolo, both agricultural experts and graduates in Food Preparation Sciences.
The vineyard of the Ronchi di Cialla winery extends over 26 hectares and is cultivated according to a low environmental impact integrated agriculture, which involves the exclusive use of contact or organic products. The management of the winery is also carried out with the same philosophy: human interventions are limited to monitoring the winemaking and aging processes, preserving the typicity of the wines. Always respecting the environment, the winery is made energetically self-sufficient thanks to the use of renewable energy sources. The Rapuzzi family has invested since 2011 in an experimental vineyard where more than 40 grape varieties have been planted with the intention of safeguarding those at risk of extinction and enhancing the indigenous ones, such as Ribolla Gialla, Verduzzo, and Picolit for whites; Refosco, Schioppettino, and Pignolo for reds.
The Ronchi di Cialla winery still sells vintages up to 1983. In fact, on one side there are the grapes from the young vines, vinified in steel, destined for the DOC Friuli Colli Orientali; on the other, the wines from the Cialla subzone, aged in wood, coming from the older parcels. Schioppettino, Picolit, and Refosco stand out among the wide range of wines from the Ronchi di Cialla winery: genuine, fresh, and elegant wines.
