Ronco del Gnemiz

Embracing a sustainable and authentic production vision aimed at truly interpreting the character of the territory, the Friulian winery Ronco del Gnemiz produces sincere and typical wines within the wine-growing area of the Colli Orientali del Friuli. The estate was founded in the 1960s in San Giovanni al Natisone, in the province of Udine, by the father of Serena Palazzolo, who purchased the first vineyards intended for a small production. In the 1980s, Serena and her husband, winemaker Christian Patat, took the reins of the winery, and today the couple is joined by their children Zeno, Giovanni, and especially Jacopo, who, after studying agriculture and oenology, has fully immersed himself in the family business.

The Ronco del Gnemiz estate consists of 30 hectares, of which approximately half is vineyard, entirely managed under organic farming, thus avoiding the use of pesticides, herbicides, and other synthetic chemicals. The cultivated varieties include both indigenous and international grapes grown in Friuli for centuries, such as Sauvignon Blanc, Friulano, Chardonnay,Merlot, Schioppettino, and Cabernet. The vineyards grow on soils rich in clay, marl, and sandstone and include vines over 60 years old. The harvest is always done by hand, and the white grapes, the focus of the estate's selection, are gently pressed, with the must obtained undergoing a brief static cold decantation before alcoholic fermentation in barrels, with malolactic fermentation mostly encouraged for the Chardonnay. On the other hand, the red grapes are vinified in stainless steel tanks through prolonged contact between the must and the skins, and all wines subsequently rest in French oak barrels and tonneaux, either new or previously used.

From these premises, the labels of the Ronco del Gnemiz winery take shape, represented by structured and elegant white wines and rather deep and complex reds, both types destined for long aging in the cellar. What emerges when tasting the winery's bottles is the Palazzolo-Patat family's desire to highlight the character of eachplot and grape variety.
