Rouges Queues
The Domaine des Rouges-Queues is located in the far south of the Côte d'Or, precisely in the small Burgundian village of Sampigny-les-Maranges, where in 1998, Jean-Yves and Isabelle Vantay started their project based on two fundamental values: territoriality and sustainability. The estate is situated in the Maranges area, although its vineyards are spread across 7 different AOCs, territories that Jean-Yves and Isabelle cherish with love and care, in full respect of the environment and biodiversity.
The small wine-growing reality of Domaine des Rouges-Queues has 5 hectares of vineyards, of which about 80% is reserved for Pinot Noir, the symbolic grape of the winery and the young Maranges denomination, with the remaining percentage dedicated to Chardonnay. The vineyards rest on soils mainly composed of marl, clay, and limestone, located between 250 and 400 meters above sea level. The agronomic management follows the principles of organic farming and, since 2008, those of biodynamics, thus rejecting the use of herbicides, pesticides, and other synthetic chemical substances. When the grapes have reached the desired level of ripeness, manual harvesting takes place, accompanied by a meticulous selection of the grapes. The subsequent winemaking phase is of traditional and artisanal style, with spontaneous alcoholic fermentations, aging mostly in oak barrels of multiple uses, and the exclusion of clarifications and filtrations.
Jean-Yves and Isabelle Vantay of Domaine des Rouges-Queues cultivate some of the most sought-after and prestigious crus of Maranges, such as ‘Clos Roussots’ and ‘La Fussière’, with other parcels located within the nearby denominations of Santenay and Hautes Côte de Beaune. These areas of Côte de Beaune are interpreted by the Domaine with the utmost genuineness and spontaneity, giving rise to elegant, soft, and juicy Pinot Noir, as well as Chardonnay of exceptional depth, an authentic reflection of the terroir. The beautiful labels are then illustrated with different species of birds.
