Sàgona
Sàgona is a mountain estate immersed in the heart of Pratomagno, in the province of Arezzo. A hidden, authentic, and silent Tuscany, where the land traces the path and man follows it, where time flows slowly. Sàgona is a breath of the mountains, a wild imprint to decipher, an embrace between man and nature. But Sàgona is also Daniele and Barbara, the owners who since 2012 have been cultivating vines and olives on small terraced plots embraced by two streams, guardians of this secret corner. Every bottle of wine and every drop of oil are the result of their commitment to protect and narrate a rare territory, where altitude gives lightness and elegance and biodiversity guides every human act.
Sagona extends over five hectares of vineyard at about 600 meters above sea level. The estate also includes the winery, in a structure also used as a residence, and the low hill towards the Arno valley. Most of the vineyards were planted in the 1970s, while in 2018 the establishment of new plantings began on the small terraces torn from the mountain, once covered with cereals useful for a subsistence economy.sustainability. In the vineyard, great attention is paid to winter pruning, and the sandy soils, derived from the disintegration of sandstone, are mostly left unplanted to preserve biodiversity. Treatments are carried out with copper and sulfur, when strictly necessary.
The wines of Sagona are an expression of the territory, produced from indigenous grape varieties: mostly Sangiovese, but also Malvasia Nera, Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo, Colorino, Malvasia Bianca, and Trebbiano. In the winery, an old manual press is used, and no temperature intervention is made. During bottling, low doses of sulfur dioxide are used; it is not stabilized, clarified, or filtered. This results in genuine expressions, endowed with an unmistakably Tuscan elegant aromatic depth and a rustic, peasant imprint.
