San Lurins

The San Lurins winery is located between the Isonzo plain and the hills of Collio Goriziano. The estate stretches across the countryside of the municipality of San Lorenzo Isontino to the south of Capriva del Friuli. This small corner of Friuli has always been known as one of the best suited for the production of extraordinary white wines. The Collio area enjoys a very special microclimate, dominated by a typically Mediterranean character, warm and sunny, always mitigated by the gentle breezes of the nearby Adriatic Sea. The Julian Alps protect the vines from the cold winds that descend from the north-east, guaranteeing an ideal habitat for vines. The considerable temperature fluctuations between day and night favour a slow ripening of the grapes, with particularly intense and elegant aromas.

The original core of the San Lurins estate dates back to 1874, when a first plot was purchased to establish a small family farm. Renovation of the vineyards began in the early 1970s and conversion toorganic farming began in the 1990s, at a time when it was still a pioneering choice.

The San Lurins estate covers about 4 hectares, cultivated with Malvasia Istriana and a few others with Ribolla Gialla. For many years the grapes were sold to other local producers, until Marco Pecorari took over the reins of the estate and decided to start bottling on his own in order to make the most of the extraordinary grapes from the old vineyards. The winery only produces sparkling wines through the ancestral method of re-fermentation in the bottle and without subsequent dégorgement. A production of sparkling wines that captivate with their fresh and savoury character, reminiscent of marine atmospheres, and that are very successful, particularly among enthusiasts of those genuine wines that are able to express terroir in a straightforward manner.
