Sartarelli

The Sartarelli winery has been active since the 1970s and is located in the heart of the historic Verdicchio Castelli di Jesi area, more precisely in Poggio San Marcello, a municipality in the inland of Ancona. In the mid-1960s, the grapes from the estate were sold to other producers; only starting from 1972 did Patrizio and Donatella decide to invest in their own wine, creating the Sartarelli winery. It all started from a few hectares and, over the years and with a growing market demand, they have expanded to 55. In future projects, the new generation of children Tommaso and Caterina, already established in the company, wants to continue to grow while carrying on the tradition and continuing to produce quality wines.

The keyword of the winery is Verdicchio, cultivated in monoculture on different soils with varying shapes and exposures, giving rise to different crus with all distinct styles. Since the beginning of their activity, the family has focused on clones of the white grape variety. Some recent studies have shown the presence of as many as 32 different clones on the soils of Sartarelli. Pruning and harvesting are done by hand. In the winery, the oenologist controls the processes: light pressing, alcoholic fermentation, and maturation exclusively in stainless steel tanks. Just enough to allow the wine to express its essence. The Balciana vineyard, of about 10 hectares, is certainly among the most illustrious selections of Sartarelli. Exposed to the North among the Marchigiani hills and influenced by the sea, it has given rise to an exciting wine, highly appreciated by national critics.

Agriculture is low environmental impact, in the name of sustainability. Especially in recent years, the approach has become increasingly eco-sustainable, reducing to small treatments of copper-sulfur and environmental cover crops, thus able to preserve the territory and maintain a high level of organic matter. In short, Sartarelli is for those who love Verdicchio and for those who want to try it in its different nuances.
