Sequerciani
Sequerciani is a large and evocative estate located on the hills of Maremma Grossetana, founded on the values of environmental sustainability and biodynamic agriculture, as well as energy self-sufficiency, thanks to geothermal and solar structures. It spans a vast area of 170 hectares with vineyards, olive groves, and arable land from which ancient grains, oil, and, above all, wines from indigenous grape varieties are produced. It was established by filmmaker and producer Ruedi Gerber starting from the core of an 18th-century agricultural property: “it is my special project: it arises from the need for something solid in my virtual world.”
The vineyards of the Sequerciani winery are located about 250 meters above sea level and cover a total area of 14 hectares. Here, only indigenous Tuscan grape varieties are cultivated in accordance with the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture. In the winery, fermentations occur spontaneously thanks to the action of the indigenous yeasts present on the skins, without the addition of other yeasts and without resorting to additives. Ruedi Gerber's approach both in the vineyard and in the winery is based on the intention of to allow nature to express itself autonomously and in the best possible way, supported by human work: “We let the grapes grow, the must ferment, and the wine mature. We follow this natural process with respect and dedication. Without additives or filtration.” The choice to carry out most of the refinements in amphorae allows the grape varieties to express themselves in their entirety, benefiting from oxygenation.
The Sequerciani wines express in a straightforward and authentic way the unmistakable characteristics of the Tuscan territory and the typical grape varieties used: Vermentino, Foglia Tonda, Pugnitello, Ciliegiolo, and Aleatico. They arise from the awareness of enhancing the great cultural heritage of Tuscan viticulture, offering an authentic glimpse of Maremma, always recognized as the wild part of Tuscany. Richness, complexity and authenticity are the characteristics of a virtuous production of the highest qualitative level.
