Silver Oak
Silver Oak is an American winery located in Oakville, in the Californian region of Napa Valley, among the most famous in the New World. The project was born in 1972 from the desire of two friends to produce a great Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in American oak barrels and destined for long aging. Ray Twomey Duncan began investing in California vineyards in the late '60s, and together with winemaker Justin Meyer founded the estate starting from a barn in Napa Valley. It took just a couple of decades to achieve the first results. Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignons began to be among the most sought after by national restaurants. After a halt caused by a fire, in 2006 the winery was rebuilt according to modern concepts of sustainability, so much so that it was also awarded by the Green Building Council of the United States.
The estate has gradually expanded with the acquisition of vineyards located in Napa Valley and Alexander Valley, areas that have a soil composition and climate particularly suitable for the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon. Each vineyard has been planted considering the local peculiarities with great attention to detail. The property is divided into several estates, each with different characteristics. Canyon Ranch was purchased in 1999 and soon proved to be the most important vineyard in Napa Valley. The sunny hillside exposures and the volcanic soils, composed of rocks and gravel, have proven ideal for the cultivation of: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The Jump Rock vineyard is located near Atlas Peak, at an altitude of about 450 meters, and is the cradle of a great Cabernet Sauvignon, rich and structured.
The Red Tail vineyard is also dedicated solely to Cabernet Sauvignon, which in this area expresses itself with great elegance, finesse, and freshness. The Alexander Valley vineyard enjoys a beautiful west-facing exposure and is characterized by alluvial soils, rich in pebbles, perfect for the needs of Cabernet Sauvignon. The Miraval vineyard is also located in Alexander Valley, in an area dedicated to viticulture for over a century due to its great vocation. Here, Cabernet Sauvignon produces wines of great elegance, ripe and deep. The Crazy Creek vineyard stands out for the presence of clay and loamy soils suitable for Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Finally, the Big River vineyard is located in a rather cool area, on clay and gravel soils and is very suitable for the cultivation of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Thanks to this precious mosaic of vineyards, Silver Oak is able to offer a range of labels of excellent quality, always at the top of Napa Valley production.
