Skerlj
Skerlj is a unique wine production entity, much like the territory that hosts it. The strength of the meeting between the limestone mountains, the sea, and the wind translates into the determination of the Skerlj siblings: Matej and Kristina have turned their love for their land into a true challenge, offering their interpretation of the Carso within their bottles.
The Skelj winery began as a traditional agricultural farm on the Karst plateau, surrounded by limestone hills in the Sales area. Nestled among the rocks, the vineyard area of twelve plots of red soil hosts the native grape varieties of Malvasia, Vitovska, and Terrano. The Skerlj siblings' production philosophy is inspired by the patience of nature and its cycles, but also by its harshness: interventions on the vines are limited, allowing the roots to penetrate the rock in search of their nourishment, ensuring the best expression of the stony terrain. The winemaking process further testifies to Matej and Kristina's artisanal approach: the grapes ferment nature.
