Skinos

Skinos is one of the most famous brands in the world of Mastiha or Masticha, the distillate from the island of Chios obtained from the resin of the mastic tree. This brand, created by the company Optimal Supply Chain, has introduced this Greek specialty to the world, known since Antiquity and protected by Protected Designation of Origin since 1997.

The Mastiha Skinos is produced from the resin of the mastic tree. It seems that this tree, widespread in many Mediterranean countries, can only produce large quantities of resin on Chios, traditionally used for the preparation of infusions and beverages. During the summer, incisions are made on the trunks of the plants, allowing this natural mastic to flow and solidify on the ground, from where it is collected. It is then infused in alcohol and distilled with copper stills. The distillate is finally diluted with water and sweetened with sugar syrup. Unlike the more common versions, Skinos is produced through distillation, achieving greater balance and excellent expressive clarity. Today is the only produced mastiha distillate, the last heir of a tradition that dates back to 600 BC.

Skinos Mastiha, now widespread in the best cocktail bars across Europe, offers the opportunity to approach one of the oldest, unique, territorial, and interesting distillates in the world. Thanks to its digestive properties, it is excellent at the end of meals, served cold or warmed like a punch. Its resinous, balsamic, and spicy aromatic profile makes it an inimitable ingredient for cocktails with a Mediterranean flavor.
