Sordo

The Giovanni Sordo winery represents a piece of history of wine from the Langhe. For three generations, it has produced great wines in these lands. Founded in 1912, it has managed to maintain an authentic family character over time and is now run by Giorgio Sordo with the help of his children. The winery is located in Castiglione Falletto and manages a vineyard area of 53 hectares, divided into various parcels, located in the most famous crus of the municipalities of: Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d'Alba, Monforte d'Alba, Barolo, Novello, La Morra, Verduno, Grinzane Cavour, and Vezza d'Alba. Thanks to a deep knowledge of the territory and its nuances, the pieces of this precious mosaic of vineyards are valued individually, with a production of as many as 8 different labels of Barolo, each capable of bringing the peculiar character of its place of origin into the glass.

The hilly area of the Langhe has always been suited to viticulture, thanks to a mild and breezy climate and soils of ancient marine origin, composed of compact calcareous-clay marls, with the presence of sands and silt. The particular conditionspedoclimatic conditions have proven to be very suitable for indigenous red grape varieties, Dolcetto, Barbera, and especially for Nebbiolo, the undisputed protagonist of the territory and the basis of the famous denominations Barolo and Barbaresco. The vineyards are managed in harmony with the environmental context. The inter-row areas are grassed to promote biodiversity and soil vitality and no herbicides or chemical fertilizers are used. For treatments, sulfur and Bordeaux mixture are used, resorting to the help of synthetic preparations only in cases of extreme necessity.

The careful management of the vineyard allows for the harvesting of healthy and high-quality grapes, which are meticulously selected before proceeding to vinification, which takes place in a traditional manner, with very delicate extractions. Following the oldest traditions of the territory, for aging, the use of large Slavonian oak barrels is preferred, allowing for slower evolutions and a lesser transfer of wood aromas to the wine. The labels of Giovanni Sordo have a classic profile, faithful to the history
