Tamdhu

The Tamdhu distillery was pure innovation but not only that: its foundation, which took place in 1897, speaks of courage, ambition, a desire for change, and an innate idea of quality. All of this, seasoned and perfected by avant-garde, expertise and foresight. In 1897, in fact, a group of noblemen and Scottish merchants gathered with the aim of producing the best whisky ever. To do this, a significant investment of money and a lot of dedication were necessary. A structure located on the banks of the River Spey was purchased, with the project of transforming it into the most advanced distillery in the world. With these high aspirations, the men turned to a true authority of the time in terms of distilleries: Charles C Doig Esq, a famous architect and engineer specialized in this type of structure. He indeed built what, at the time, presented itself as the most innovative distillery ever, deeply avant-garde. That was the beginning of a long adventure, which however saw an interruption in 2010, the year in which the distillery closed. However, that place is permeated by a desire for redemption and by that high ambition that moved the first steps of the founders. With the same impetus, it was therefore purchased and reopened in 2011 and brought back, over the years, to its former glory.

Today, for the aging of Tamdhu whisky, barrels previously used for sherry are employed, of the same type that was used in ancient times at the distillery. Only the finest and most expensive barrels on the market, coming from the Spanish town of Jerez, are purchased by the distillery. They are shipped whole and, once they arrive at their destination, they undergo careful checks to certify their perfect quality to shape the personality of their excellent distillates. This meticulous work done on the selection of barrels, the peaty scent of malted barley, and the waters taken directly from the Tamdhu source, create the optimal and necessary conditions to continue the path traced by the footsteps of those noblemen who dreamed of producing the best whisky in the world. From 1897 to today the desire to overcome obstacles is always the same and continues to guide the hands and the heart of those who produce a range of Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky that has made history.
