Il Poggione
The Il Poggione Estate is a historic winery in the municipality of Montalcino, an ancient and prestigious cellar appreciated for its traditionalist style and the excellence of its wines. Its origins date back to the late 19th century, when Florentine Lavinio Franceschi, captivated by the majestic and evocative scenery of the hills between Montalcino and Sant’Angelo, sensed the winemaking potential of the territory and the Sangiovese that has always been cultivated there.
The intuition and passion of the founder have remained reference points for the Franceschi family, promoters of a production philosophy focused on great attention to vineyard work, the enhancement of traditions and the characteristics of the terroir, and respect for the environment. Today, the Il Poggione Estate extends over 600 hectares in a landscape of rare beauty, populated by vineyards (125 hectares), olive groves, and woods. The heart of the property is represented by the Paganelli vineyard, planted in 1964 and considered the oldest vineyard in the entire denomination.
The wines of the Il Poggione Estate arise from rigorous and classic interpretations of the Montalcino terroir. The magnificent expressions of Brunello stand out, absolutely paradigmatic of the category. These are wines that arise from a wise and traditionalist management of the vineyards and cellar work: diversified agriculture is practiced with alternating different crops near the vineyards, allowing the life and proliferation of wild animals; the production process follows traditional methods but is carried out using the most modern technologies. These are the premises of the great excellence of Il Poggione, from which unique and indispensable red wines are born.
