Tenuta di Trinoro
Among the wineries that have more recently contributed to enhancing the image of Supertuscans in the world, one cannot fail to mention Tenuta di Trinoro, an iconic and prestigious name, synonymous with elegance and quality. Driven by his far-sighted and visionary spirit, after acquiring the property in the 1980s, winemaker Andrea Franchetti founded Tenuta di Trinoro in 1995 in Sarteano, in the Val d’Orcia, a territory in southeastern Tuscany that until then had been almost entirely foreign to viticulture. Before starting his winemaking project, Andrea trained in Bordeaux and, noticing clay, limestone, and gravelly soils similar to those of the St. Emilion area, the producer sensed the vocation of the Val d’Orcia for Bordeaux varieties. Through dedication, research, and experimentation, Andrea Franchetti thus created a true Tuscan enological gem. After his sudden passing at the end of 2021, the winery passed into the hands of his son Mario Alberto Benjamin, who nurtures the important viticultural heritage of father.
Tenuta di Trinoro extends over 23 hectares of vineyards, rooted in clay-limestone soils rich in gravel and reserved exclusively for international black grape varieties Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot. An exception is a small vineyard of Sémillon from which the white 'Trinoro' is produced. The planting of the rows was carried out following the Bordeaux model, with high planting densities and the use of cuttings from Pomerol. The management of the vineyards, located at high altitudes between 400 and 620 meters above sea level, aims to contain yields through drastic thinning of the clusters, aimed at significantly enhancing the quality of the grapes. The winemaking established by Andrea Franchetti involves accurate and precise processes, with aging taking place exclusively in concrete tanks and French oak barriques.
The selection of Tenuta di Trinoro impresses with its extraordinary elegance and complexity of its red wines from international grapes. The pride of the selection is the 'Tenuta di Trinoro', an elegant, broad, and concentrated interpretation capable of combining the varietal qualities of Bordeaux grapes with the unmistakable character of the Tuscan territory.
