Tenute Folonari

The Estates of Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari are based in Greve in Chianti, but are spread across five production realities covering 250 hectares of vineyards in the extraordinarily suited territories of the noble and eclectic Tuscany. Chianti Classico, Montalcino, Bolgheri, Montepulciano, Montecucco are the estates that form the backbone of this winery's production, which, with extraordinary versatility and capacity, weaves labels of great expressiveness. Ambrogio and Giovanni are respectively father and son, as well as the current heirs of a family of entrepreneurs originally from the distant Valtellina and Valcamonica, who, building on the vast experience in quality wine production inherited from grandfather Nino, have skillfully managed the operations of a large-scale reality since 2000, fundamentally based on respect for family values.

The wines of Tenute Folonari embrace international taste with blends of Carbernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, alongside the tradition of Sangiovese, Vermentino, and Colorino, all of which are subjected to soft pressing to extract only the tendentially soft characteristics of the grapes. After the various fermentation periods, all labels, including the whites, undergo a medium-long aging period in small French oak barrels, before being bottled. The production setup is absolutely cutting-edge regarding the mechanical aspect, but remains strongly tied to territorial traditions in its labels, providing us with excellent expressive matrices of the territory and its traditions.

Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari with their Estates reveal themselves in the continuous search combined with a strong creative vocation, respect for biodiversity, and innovation both in the vineyard and in the cellar, bolstered by their undeniable experience. Their labels present themselves in the robust and traditional character of Chianti Classico and Chianti Classico Riserva, in the exotic expressiveness of “il Pareto”, “il Borgo” and Bolgheri Rosso, but also in the unexpected exuberance of Chardonnay “La Pietra”, all with a character of pleasant elegance that leaves us the image of a territory and its essence. Because this remains the goal that Ambrogio and Giovanni aspire to: to enhance the true flavors of Tuscany in its traditions and diversity.
