Raiz Teresa
The winery of Teresa Raiz is located in the heart of Friuli, near Povoletto, northeast of the city of Udine. A land always known for great wines, particularly extraordinary whites, it still represents an essential reference point for all enthusiasts. The project was born from the initiative of Paolo Giuseppe Tosolini, who wanted to dedicate the company to the memory of his maternal grandmother, Teresa Raiz. In 1972, after completing his oenological studies in Conegliano Veneto, Paolo Giuseppe planted the first vineyards on the lands of Marsure di Povoletto, with high planting density, in order to obtain few grapes per plant, but of excellent quality and aromatic concentration.
Today, the property extends over a total area of about thirteen hectares, which fall within the Grave del Friuli denomination, in addition to a couple of hectares in Faedis and five in Montina, in the area of the Colli Orientali del Friuli. The soils in the Povoletto area are predominantly alluvial in nature, poor and very draining, with abundant presence of stones, river pebbles, and gravel. In the Colli Orientali, the presence of ponca or flysch dominates, a sedimentation of calcareous marls and sandstones of ancient marine origin, stony and rich in mineral substances. The climate is particularly favorable for viticulture, always mild, sunny, and well-ventilated. The alpine chain protects the region from the cold currents descending from the northeast, and the breezes from the nearby Adriatic soften the temperatures with the marine breath.
Within the Teresa Raiz estate, the historic grape varieties of the area have been favored, Ribolla Gialla, Refosco dal peduncolo rosso, but numerous international varieties, introduced during the 19th century, are also present, which have adapted very well to the pedoclimatic characteristics of the Friulian lands. The winery is equipped with the most modern technologies, and since the 1980s, white wines have been produced following the technique of partial reduction, in order to enhance the aromas and varietal fragrances of the grapes while maintaining the expressive freshness intact. The labels of Tenuta Raiz are a direct expression of the territory and offer the emotion of tasting authentic, straightforward, and sincere wines.
