Terre a Mano - Fattoria di Bacchereto
The Tuscan winery Terre a Mano – Fattoria di Bacchereto is located in the hamlet of Bacchereto, within the municipality of Carmignano, where through a spontaneously artisanal production philosophy Rossella Bencini Tesi and her trusted winemaker Marco Vannucci produce authentic wines that smell and taste of the territory. This historic estate was founded in the 15th century and was once a hunting reserve for the noble de’ Medici family. In the 1920s, the farm was purchased by Rossella's grandfather, and over time the family has contributed to the enhancement of Carmignano, while keeping well away from conformist trends. On the other hand, to enhance one of the oldest wines in all of Italy, one must commit to listening to the territory, interpreting it at its best, without filters or alterations. Carmignano can be considered the progenitor of the Supertuscans, as it has been customary since the 16th century in the area to blend Sangiovese and Cabernet, a grape variety that was imported from France by the Medici.
The lands of Fattoria di Bacchereto – Terre a Mano extend over 167 hectares, of which 60 are dedicated to olive groves, 8 reserved for vines and the remaining part occupied by woods, meadows, orchards, and chestnut groves, which paint a landscape of rich biodiversity. Among the vines, located between 200 and 500 meters above sea level and also consisting of very old vines, the black grape varieties Sangiovese, Canaiolo Nero, and Cabernet Sauvignon are cultivated, along with the native white grapes Trebbiano Toscano and Malvasia del Chianti. The agronomic management is based on the principles of biodynamics while in the cellar the fermentations are completely spontaneous and the use of enological aids and additives is banned, as well as any clarification or filtration operations.
There are essentially three labels produced by the winery Terre a Mano – Fattoria di Bacchereto: the Carmignano, the White ‘Sassocarlo’ and the Vin Santo. These are artisanal interpretations with an almost ancestral charm, capable of evoking a genuine dimension that reflects the most authentic face of Tuscan viticulture. For this reason, once you taste the wines of Terre a Mano, it will be hard to do without them.
