Tessère

In the flat surroundings of the province of Venice lies Tessère, a winery and agricultural reality led by Emanuela Bincoletto, daughter of the founder Ilario who created it in 1979, who carries on with commitment and passion the foundations laid by her father. Motivated and guided in her endeavor by a combination of heart and passion, she manages to bring forth the typical aromas and flavors of her territory from her winemaking production, often too little considered. She also uses her winery to promote cultural activities through a project called “educational farm,” through which she proposes activities that revive traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation for decades, such as a course on wild herbs or an in-depth study on winemaking processes (only during harvest periods).

The vineyards owned by the Tessère winery are located between the municipalities of Noventa and San Donà, immersed in the heart of the DOC Piave and are worked and cultivated according to organic farming practices, where often and willingly some practices and techniques belonging to the dictates of biodynamics are introduced. No fertilizers of any kind are used and weeding in the vineyard is only mechanical, without the use of chemical substances. Among its rows grows the principal grape variety of this area, namely Raboso, which Emanuela subjects to various and multiple winemaking interpretations: from the red that recalls tradition to the classic method sparkling wine that, however, maintains craftsmanship and character, passing through a red passito that reveals itself to be an exciting and enveloping nectar.

It is here in Tessère that one finds the essence of a grape variety almost – unjustly – forgotten that has the peculiarity of being a native variety predating the Roman passage, which historically left their grape varieties wherever they passed. Here, however, the evidence attesting to the presence of Raboso, or at least one of its ancestors, in the territory of the Valle del Piave dates back to 77 A.D. within the “Naturalis Historia” of Pliny the Elder, which speaks of a wine with a blacker than pitch. It would later be discovered that this testimony referred to a grape that in the following centuries would generate grapes such as Terrano, Refosco, Friularo, and finally Raboso, of which Emanuela Bincoletto is the queen.
