Bussola Tommaso
Located within the municipality of Negrar, the Venetian wine reality Tommaso Bussola is committed to elegantly interpreting Valpolicella Classica, a prestigious wine territory cultivated since the times of Ancient Rome. The origins of the estate date back to 1977, the year in which young Tommaso Bussola began working in his uncle Giuseppe's small winery, a proponent of tradition. After many years spent caring for his uncle's production, Tommaso began to feel the need to experiment with something new and thus, in the early '90s, built his new winery introducing innovations such as the use of small barrels for the aging phase of the wines. Since 1995, the producer has been joined by his wife Daniela, while in 2005 their children Paolo and Giuseppe entered the estate, to whom Tommaso has passed on sensitivity and passion.
Within the 15 hectares of vineyards owned by the Bussola Tommaso winery, located among the hills of Negrar di Valpolicella, are found the native varieties Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, Rondinella, Molinara, and Dindarella, along with significantly smaller percentages of the international grapes Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The plots are diverse, also equipped with very old vines, located at altitudes reaching up to 470 meters above sea level on volcanic soils rich in clay, basalt, and limestone. The harvest, carried out strictly by hand, is accompanied by careful selection of the grapes, which are then vinified in stainless steel tanks or conical wooden vats, after an adequate period of drying the bunches in the case of Amarone and Recioto. For the subsequent aging phase, mostly barriques, tonneaux, and large oak barrels are used, often in combination.
From the fresh Valpolicella Classico to the prestigious Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva, the wines of Tommaso Bussola reflect the dedication and skills of the producer, showing a style between the traditional and the modernist, capable of capturing the best of both production philosophies.
