Tenute Baldo
Tenute Baldo is an important Umbrian reality that operates in the wonderful area between Montefalco and Torgiano, two true oenological excellences of our central Italy. The winery has always been committed to producing quality wines that can represent the peculiar character of a green and still wild territory. The company philosophy combines a great respect for local historical customs with an attention to new agronomic knowledge and innovations in the winemaking field. An ideal mix that allows for the preservation of the authentic character of the area's wines and enhances their best peculiar qualities.
Tenute Baldo Società Agricola spans approximately 50 hectares, divided into two large properties, located in the splendid natural setting of the unspoiled Umbrian nature. In the magnificent hilly area of Torgiano, in Basta Umbria, Vignabaldo mainly dedicates itself to the production of the famous Torgiano Rosso. Among the rows, the classic grape varieties of the area are cultivated: Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Grechetto, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay. In Cantalupo di Bevagna, in the heart of the Montefalco denomination, the winery mainly focuses on the indigenous red grape variety Sagrantino and to a lesser extent on Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The territory is historically very suited for viticulture. The wonderful and gentle hilly exposures, sunny and well-ventilated, enjoy a cool continental climate that favors a slow maturation of the grapes, with good temperature excursions. The soils are medium-textured, predominantly clayey, with the presence of limestone and alluvial sediments. The vineyards are managed with high-density plantings and low yields per hectare, in order to have grapes of good richness and aromatic concentration. The harvests are carried out manually, and the vinifications are conducted with the utmost respect for the quality of the raw material. The cellar practices are minimally invasive, with low use of sulfites, to ensure healthy and genuine wines capable of expressing the authentic character of the territory.
