Villa Lanata
Villa Lanata is an interesting Piedmontese winery, located in Cossano Belbo, between Alba and Acqui Terme, in the beautiful hilly area of the Langhe. The heart of the property is the historic villa, situated in the center of a natural amphitheater, which hosts wonderful terraced vineyards exposed to full sun. The origins of the estate date back to the late 19th century, when Cardinal Giovanni Battista Lanata brought the complex to life. Over the centuries, the property has changed hands several times and is currently managed by the Martini family, who have restored it to its former glory. The territory has always been very suited for white grape varieties, and most of the vineyards are cultivated with Moscato bianco, the true prince of the area.
The magnificent hilly area of the Valle Belbo captivates the eye with the soft profile of its gentle hills. It is a place of great beauty, which in 2014 was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site for the Wine Landscapes of Langhe and Roero. Of the 53 hectares of the estate, 45 arearound the Villa and the rest in the area of the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Rovere. The most cultivated variety is Moscato bianco, always present in these lands. The suitable soils and the mild, breezy climate are perfect for ripening the grapes of this aromatic variety, characterized by intense floral scents of orange blossom and fragrant fruity aromas of peach and white-fleshed fruit.
Among the other grapes present at Villa Lanata, Chardonnay certainly stands out, which thanks to its versatility, has adapted well to the terroir, producing wines of excellent quality. Among the vineyards, there are also some plots cultivated with red grape varieties, particularly: Barbera, Merlot, Dolcetto, and Nebbiolo, used to produce a blended red and a refined rosé, made with pure Nebbiolo.
