Villa Poggio Salvi
Villa Poggio Salvi is an important and well-known winery in Montalcino, identified and become famous with the symbol of Pomona, the face of a woman with grape hair representing the ‘patrona pomorum’, the Roman goddess of fruits. It was founded in 1979 by engineer Pierluigi Tagliabue, who is still at the helm of this productive reality along with his nephew winemaker Luca Belingardi. In addition to 21 hectares located in Montalcino, entirely cultivated with Sangiovese Grosso, since 1998 the winery has included other vineyards in the Chianti area.
The vineyards of Villa Poggio Salvi are situated between 300 and 500 meters above sea level, on soils rich in galestro. The beneficial breeze coming from the Tyrrhenian Sea helps to mitigate an ideal microclimate for quality viticulture. The etymology of the locality indeed refers to the appellative “Poggio della Salute”, a toponym with which the ancients identified the territory. A large and modern winery, located just below the manor house, was built starting in 1990 by Benedetta Tagliabue, daughter of Pierluigi, along with her husband Eric Miralles. The perfect integration with the physiognomy of the territory makes this structure a virtuous example of architecture that rises gracefully among land, trees, and vineyards.
The wines of Villa Poggio Salvi confirm, year after year, as a certainty of the Tuscan wine scene. The winery has shown that it knows how to interpret well the characteristics of the territory and those of its principal grape, Sangiovese, expressed in terms of power and depth. The symbol of Pomona, developed by the important Robilant studio in Milan, appears on all labels since 1979, thus becoming a brand of quality and prestige. The face of the goddess of fruits and harvest watches over the entire production, ensuring that everything proceeds in the best possible way and that the quality of the wine is always impeccable, in line with tradition.
