Villa Raiano

The Basso family founded Villa Raiano in 1996 by restoring the old facilities of the family-owned oil mill and immediately focusing on the enhancement of Irpinian viticulture. The estate is located within the municipality of San Michele di Serino, in the province of Avellino, immersed in a landscape rich in biodiversity with chestnut woods and vineyards, where the current winery was built in 2009. Sabino Basso, who founded Villa Raiano together with his brother Simone, manages this family-run wine business, personally taking care of the agronomic aspect.

Villa Raiano extends over about 27 hectares of vineyards, situated in varied pedological, microclimatic, and altimetric contexts that reflect the heterogeneity of the Irpinian territory. The soils are partly clayey, with particular abundance of skeleton and limestone in certain subzones, and partly sandy with the presence of tuff marls, while the altitudes range from 300 to 550 meters above sea level. In this territorial and pedological context, the estate exclusively cultivates traditional grape varieties.Irpinia, namely Fiano, Greco, Falanghina, and Aglianico, varieties cultivated according to the principles of certified organic farming. All fermentations take place in steel tanks while the aging phases occur in wooden barrels of different capacities for reds and always in steel for whites, often on the fine lees for long periods. Some wines are also processed in cement tanks or terracotta amphorae.

The wines of Villa Raiano are monovarietal expressions of exemplary typicity that embrace all the controlled and guaranteed designations of origin of Irpinia: from the finesse of Fiano di Avellino to the structure of Taurasi, passing through the mineral character of Greco di Tufo. The production is then divided into the 'Classics' line and the 'Vigne' line. The former includes labels made through a blend of grapes from different parcels, as is traditional in Irpinia, while the 'Vigne' selection consists of single-parcel interpretations capable of highlighting the infinite nuances of.territory.
