Villscheider

Villscheider is a small family-run business that manages an agriturismo and cultivates vineyards in the territory of the Valle Isarco. As often happened in this area, the farm primarily produced apples, but in recent years it has converted a good part of its land to viticulture, which has progressively become more profitable. The farm is located west of Bressanone on the first slopes of the morainic hills, which rise towards the peaks of the Alpine chain and is managed by Florian Hipold and his son Meinard. The production of wine for family use and the restaurant activity has always been part of the family traditions, but it made a qualitative leap with the decision to start bottling on its own and to make it the main activity of the company.

The transformation of the estate fits into the overall growth of the entire territory of the Valle Isarco, which is establishing itself as one of the most vocated areas of South Tyrol for the production of great white wines. This narrow valley, which rises from Bolzano towards the Brenner, represents the northernmost part of the Alto Adige vineyard and is characterized by a particularly cool climate. The vineyards are cultivated up to an altitude of 800/900 meters above sea level, in areas with notable temperature excursions between day and night temperatures, which allow the grapes to mature very slowly and accumulate rich aromas, making the profiles of the wines intense and fragrant.

From a geological point of view, it is a glacial valley with a north-south development. The soils are poor and stony, predominantly consisting of morainic deposits of sands and gravels, resting on rocky substrates of schists. These pedoclimatic conditions have proven particularly suitable for international grape varieties originating from Central Europe. The Villscheiderhof estate manages four hectares of vineyards located above Bressanone. The main body of the vineyard is located in a wonderfully sunny basin, which features very steep slopes. Among the rows, the white grape varieties Sylvaner, Kerner,Riesling and the red grape variety Zweigel. The wines have a straightforward character, resulting from high-quality grapes and very simple cellar practices.
