Vincent Paris
Vincent Paris is a young vigneron with a shy and reserved personality, completely dedicated to his work with humility and skill. He founded his Domaine in 1997, starting from 1 hectare in the territory of Cornas. Very soon he managed to expand the property, adding vineyards in the neighboring denomination of Saint-Joseph. Thanks to a rural land association, in 2007 he was able to purchase from his uncle the parcel of La Geynale, a historic vineyard that boasts old vines between 80 and 100 years old. Because Vincent is the artistic nephew of Robert Michel, unanimously considered a living institution regarding this northern part of the Rhône. Today, Domaine Vincent Paris extends over 9 hectares: just over 6 hectares in the Cornas denomination, just over 1.5 hectares in the Saint-Joseph denomination, and about 1 hectare without denomination, that is the land that will produce the so-called Vin de Pays.
Domaine Vincent Paris is thus located in the northern sector of the Rhône valley, along that narrow right bank between the river and the first foothills of the Central Massif.Central. This morphology forces Vincent to refuse vineyard walks to visitors who request them, because the slopes are generally impressive and often dangerous: his plots in Cornas reach 30% and even 60%. The soils of the various parcels all show a common denominator represented by granite: the bedrock is in many cases exposed, leaving very little thickness to a soil that is often strewn with gravel and stones. The climate in these areas has semi-continental influences, with winters that can take on decidedly harsh accents and is defined by the mistral, the cold northern wind that often blows violently, damaging the buds of the vines.
Vincent Paris cultivates the typical grapes of this terroir: the white berries Viognier and Roussanne, and the black berry that can be considered practically the monocultivar of the northern Rhône, Syrah. The agronomic approach is generally directed towards maximum possible environmental sustainability, but is simply and honestly dictated by the needsthat arise from time to time in the different plots and in the different vintages: especially due to the steep slopes, work in the vineyard is so complicated that the search for certification at all costs seems absurd. The vinifications of the Domaine are focused on the enhancement of the territory and the varietal, without artistic interferences: spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, gentle pressing, aging that combines stainless steel tanks and used oak barrels of various sizes.
