Vinos de Potrero
Vinos de Potrero represents the viticultural project started in 2008 in Mendoza by Nicolas Burdisso and his wife Belén Soler Vallé, who enthusiastically identified the Gualtallary wine region as the ideal land to create great expressions of the territory. The couple immediately entrusted themselves to the competent Bernardo Bossi Bonilla, one of the most respected Latin winemakers who has a deep knowledge of the Mendoza region, boasting experiences at prestigious wineries in the area such as Catena Zapata, Ernesto Catena Vineyards, and Casarena. “Potrero” is a Spanish term that identifies the improvised “street” soccer fields where young Argentinians develop their soccer talent.
Gualtallary is located in the Uco Valley wine region, at the foot of the Andes mountain range. Here, the sandy and calcareous alluvial soils rich in skeleton, the very high altitudes, quantifiable around 1,350 meters above sea level, and the dry and sunny climate characterized by significant temperature variations between day and night, constitute the ingredients that allow for the production of fresh, fine, and fragrant wines, whether white or red. In fact, once considered too cold for viticulture, Gualtallary is now one of the most appreciated subzones in all of Mendoza due to its ability to provide more subtle and refined expressions, in contrast to the material and “chewy” wines that were popular a few decades ago. The ampelographic platform available to the estate consists of Malbec, a Bordeaux-origin grape variety that has made Argentine winemaking successful, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay. The vinification takes place in cement, steel, or French oak barrels depending on the specific bottle.
