White Oak Distillery
The White Oak Distillery is located in the city of Akashi, in the Hyogo prefecture. We are not far from the city of Kobe, near the sea, a position that helps influence the climate, mild and temperate even during the winter seasons. It is a production reality with a very interesting history: it was indeed the first distillery to obtain a state license, in 1919, to start the production of spirits, and, consequently, it was the first to dedicate itself to the production of Japanese Whiskies. White Oak, now owned by Eigashima, is characterized by a strictly traditional production, and until 1984, its products were marketed exclusively within national borders. Only after this date, in correspondence with an important restructuring of the company buildings, where spaces dedicated exclusively to Whisky production were added, did the distillery's labels begin to be distributed outside Japan. Today the White Oak Distillery is is characterized by a niche production, which, even in terms of quantities, voluntarily maintains a low profile, to always ensure the highest quality within every bottle.
The Whiskies produced by the White Oak Distillery testify to the beautiful journey that this spirit has had in the Land of the Rising Sun. Especially in the last twenty years, Japanese Whiskies have indeed had considerable success, not only among consumers worldwide but also at the level of criticism. It should not be forgotten that, in 2001, a Japanese product won the World Whisky Awards, surpassing in the judgment of international critics a Scottish Single Malt. An almost “historic” date, which certifies how Japan is a country to be taken seriously for Whiskies of absolute quality.
Among the products distilled within the White Oak Distillery, we find both Blended Whisky and Single Malt, made with almost obsessive care, where every phase of the processing is followed with the typical rigor that characterizes Japanese culture. Among the various labels that are recommended to taste include the Single Malt “Akashi” and the Blended “Tokinoka”.
