'L'ERTA POGGIO DELLA BRUNA' ROSSO PAOLO MARCHIONNI 2018 DESCRIPTION

"L'Erta Poggio della Bruna" Rosso, made by Paolo Marchionni, is an intense and long-lived wine that expresses the best characteristics of the great Sangioveses of Tuscany. The name of the wine refers to the slope of the vineyards and, in fact, the grapes come only from the most vocated parcels of the high hills, cultivated on stony soils with splendid exposures. The excellent quality of the grapes, which are always ripe and aromatically rich, makes it possible to obtain a wine of great personality, which is the spearhead of the production.

The wine "L'Erta Poggio della Bruna" Rosso was born on the estate of Paolo Marchionni, a Tuscan winemaker who has been able to put himself in the spotlight thanks to a simple and direct approach to the world of wine. His labels are particularly appreciated by those in search of authentic wines capable of expressing the true face of terroir. The Sangiovese vineyards are located on sunny hillside exposures and are rooted in soils composed of sand, limestone, silt clay and Galestro and Alberese stones. The best bunches selected in the vineyard are harvested between late September and early October. The grapes are fermented spontaneously, using only indigenous yeasts, in concrete tanks, with a maceration period on the skins of about 20 days. The wine rests for 18 months in tonneaux and barriques, only a small part of which are new, and completes its aging with another 15 months in the bottle before being put on the market.

The Rosso "L'Erta Poggio della Bruna" is the highest expression of Sangiovese from Paolo Marchionni's winery. It is the most structured, complex version, made with long aging in mind. Its intense personality makes it particularly suitable for important pairings with a tagliata of Chianina or with game. It shows a ruby red color with garnet hues. The olfactory picture is characterized by aromas of ripe cherry, small red berries, hints of black cherry and red-fleshed plum, sensations of humus and underbrush, nuances of leather and noble woods. Well-structured, it has dense, ripe tannins and good aromatic complexity, which spreads out into a long, lingering sip. The finish is pleasantly fresh and savory.
