'LES FORTS DE LATOUR' CHATEAU LATOUR 2012 DESCRIPTION

"Château Latour's "Les Forts de Latour" was born in the heart of the Médoc region, whose centuries-old history has helped create the legend of the great wines of Bordeaux. Its origins go back as far as 1331 and the estate has traversed the centuries always in the sign of excellence. The 1855 classification of Bordeaux wines, made on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition in Paris, rewarded the quality of its wines with the mention of Premier Gran Cru Classé. Even today, it still represents an absolute benchmark and its labels belong to the elite of the world's greatest red wines.

The red wine "Les Forts de Latour" from Château Latour is the fruit of an extraordinary terroir. The estate is located about 50 kilometres north-west of Bordeaux, along the banks of the Gironde estuary. The soils, composed of alluvial pebbles transported over millennia by the Garonne, are very well drained and particularly suited to red grape varieties. The climate is mitigated by the proximity of the Atlantic Ocean and the wide estuary, which reduce the risk of spring frosts and allow the grapes to ripen perfectly. The wine is made from grapes from three areas of the estate: the famous Enclos, the most vocated and oldest part of the Châteaux Latour vineyard, some plots also intended for the production of the Châteaux's first wine, and the Piñada, Petit Batailley and Saint-Anne vineyards. All the vineyards are around 40 years old and are cultivated with a high planting density and low yields per hectare. After fermentation, the wine matures in French oak barrels, approximately 50-60% new.

Château Latour's "Les Forts de Latour" is a wine of excellence made by one of the most famous names in Bordeaux, dedicated to all lovers of great reds. In the glass, it has a rather dark ruby colour with light garnet reflections. Elegant, refined and complex, the bouquet expresses aromas of small dark berry fruits, currants, blueberries, wild blackberries, cherries, nuances of violets, hints of undergrowth, officinal and balsamic herbs, slight notes of noble woods, leather, soft spices and roasting. On the palate it is rich and deep, with ripe tannins, well integrated with the body of the wine, a broad and very persistent aromatic spectrum, stretching harmoniously towards a long and pleasantly fresh finish. An iconic and legendary Medoc red!
