CHATEAU PAPE CLEMENT GRAND CRU CLASSÉ DE GRAVES 2018 DESCRIPTION

Château Pape Clément Grand Cru Classé de Graves is a classic Bordeaux blend made in the appellation of Pessac Léognan, located in the Graves area. It is made from a blend based on a predominant percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented with Merlot and a small percentage of Cabernet Franc. Since 1980, the estate has been owned by Bernard Magrez, a famous Bordeaux oenologist and businessman, who also manages three other Grand Cru Classé: La Tour Carnet (Haut Médoc) Château Fombrauge (Saint-Emilion) and Clos Haut Peyraguey (Sauternes). This is one of the most important red wines from Bordeuax that expresses great elegance and intensity, made from top-quality grapes from a particularly suitable area.

The red Château Pape Clément Grand Cru Classé de Graves comes from a 60-hectare estate located in an area characterised by the presence of ancient alluvial gravel terraces formed by the Garonne, known as the 'nappe des graves pyrénéennes'. It is a particularly valuable terroir, which allows several grape varieties to be cultivated with excellent results: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, for the reds, and Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris, Sémillon and Muscadelle for the whites. All harvests are carried out by hand with an initial selection of the bunches in the vineyard and a subsequent selection on the sorting table, before proceeding to vinification. After cold maceration, the grapes are sent to fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with a period of more than a month on the skins. The wine matures for 18 months in French oak barrels, 70% new, and then completes its maturation in the bottle.

The Pessac-Leognan Château Pape Clément Grand Cru Classé de Graves is a prestigious label that encapsulates the ancient savoir-faire of an area that has been recognised for centuries worldwide as the cradle of great red wines. To the eye, it has a dark ruby red colour with light garnet reflections. On the nose it expresses a bouquet of great elegance and intensity, with seductive aromas of blackcurrant, cherry, blueberry, raspberry, morello cherry, nuances of violet, officinal and balsamic herbs, delicate hints of soft spices, leather and noble woods. Structured and powerful, it presents itself on the palate as aromatically rich and very deep, characterised by dense and evolved tannins and a very harmonious finish, fresh and with remarkable taste persistence.
