Chiarli Cleto

Cleto Chiarli is one of the most representative names of Lambrusco excellence in the Modenese hills. The importance, prestige and know-how of this great winery rest on more than 150 years of history: it was in fact founded in 1860 by the innkeeper Cleto, a native of the Modenese countryside. In just a few years, Cleto took his Lambrusco wines to hitherto unheard of heights of quality, also paying great attention to the aesthetics of the bottle and the label, spreading the use of the cork tied with string of ancient peasant origin. For his great oenological merits he was awarded the 'Mention Honorable' certificate at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900. This was the first of a long series of international successes for quality Lambrusco.

Today, Cleto Chiarli & Figli is managed with determination, passion and innovative spirit by the descendants Mauro and Anselmo, who in 2001 built a modern winery, giving life to a new project to enhance the great potential of the territory. The vineyards extend across the best areas of the Modenese countryside: the Lambrusco Grasparossa grapes come from hilly plots around Castelvetro; the Lambrusco di Sorbara grapes are cultivated further north, in Sozzigalli. The production philosophy combines a centuries-old link with the tradition of the Modena area with the use of state-of-the-art technologies that guarantee the production of sparkling wines of impeccable quality. They are produced in most cases according to the Charmat and Martinotti methods or with natural refermentation in the bottle, as is the case, for example, with the iconic Lambrusco del Fondatore, a true hymn to the traditions and roots of a glorious history.

The Cleto Chiarli winery offers a wide range of expressive Lambrusco wines of great quality. These are drinkable, fresh and everyday reds, endowed with a very territorial elegance and an undeniable ease of drinking, much appreciated qualities to which we owe the great success of the winery and its assumption as a symbol of the territory. The simple, dry and lively personality, with a high gastronomic vocation, makes these sparkling red wines inseparable and impeccable companions of the table and the dinner table, capable of satisfying the senses with cheerfulness, generosity and pleasure sip after sip.
