Caprai Arnaldo

This is one of the most famous wineries in Umbria, a true enological reference of Montefalco. It was founded in 1971 by Arnaldo Caprai, a successful textile entrepreneur with the dream of changing his life and producing wine, realizing the great potential of a grape variety then unknown to the general public, the Sagrantino. It will be his son Marco, starting in 1988, who will involve great personalities and professionals in the sector to enhance this native grape variety and make the Caprai winery the pride and undisputed protagonist of its land. The great vintage of 1993 represents the peak of all Marco's work and efforts, bringing him into the ranks of the greatest Italian producers.

Today, the Arnaldo Caprai winery and the Sagrantino of Montefalco are almost synonymous. Thanks to the great popularity achieved worldwide, many producers have followed the example of this important production reality, and the Sagrantino has rightfully entered the podium of Italy's great reds. This winery has demonstrated how an ambitious dream could transform, due to the deep connection with the history and peculiarities of the territory, into high-quality bottles, which also include expressions of Montefalco Rosso and Grechetto.

could transform, due to the deep connection with the history and peculiarities of the territory, into high-quality bottles, which also include expressions of Montefalco Rosso and Grechetto.

All Caprai wines are born in a modern and functional underground winery, completely renovated in 1997. Here, there are steel tanks for fermentation and many oak barrels for aging: 2,000 French barriques from Allier, Nievre, and Vosges, and 15 large Slavonian oak barrels. The goal of this work is the same as it was thirty years ago: to bet on the great wealth of the tradition of Montefalco, recovering it in a modern key. Technology, expertise, experimentation, and innovation all contribute to the creation of powerful, full-bodied, and long-lived reds, endowed with great personality. The numerous awards received make this winery a true symbol of excellence of the Umbrian territory, an indispensable brand in the discovery of a grape variety capable of evoking emotions like few others, that Sagrantino brought to the highest levelsqualitative.
