CHARDONNAY 'VIGNA SAN FRANCESCO' TENUTA REGALEALI - TASCA D'ALMERITA 2019 DESCRIPTION

Tasca d'Almerita's "Vigna San Francesco" Chardonnay is one of the flagship white wines offered by this splendid winery in Sicily. The fortune of the winery lies in having an unparalleled terroir in Regaleali. Even at the latitudes of the large Italian island, the Chardonnay grape can express remarkable qualities. Among the first wineries to strongly believe in this international variety was Count Lucio Tasca d'Almerita, who decided to plant five hectares in the lower part of the San Francesco hill, at about 500 meters above sea level, on deep, clayey, sandy, slightly calcareous soils, and exposed to the South/West. These soils, with excellent texture, can impart character and structure to the grapes used to produce the final wines, achieving an excellent combination of freshness and sapidity.

The complexity and elegance of the "Vigna San Francesco" Chardonnay are also owed to the alcoholic fermentation carried out in French oak barrels from Allier and Tronçais forests, each with a capacity of 350 litres. Malolactic fermentation is not carried out, and the wine is matured in barrels of the same capacity, with 70% being first-use and 30% second-use, where it rests for 8 months.

The Tasca d'Almerita Chardonnay presents itself in the glass as golden yellow with greenish hues. On the nose, one can perceive the complexity of aromas reminiscent of mango, papaya, passion fruit, candied citron, caramel, cinnamon, and white rose. The palate is incredibly fresh and linear, with an enveloping sensation of vanilla and hints of salinity. This wine is of absolute excellence, a perfect execution bearing the Tasca d'Almerita label, one of the highest oenological expressions of the entire Sicily.
