'ALTEA ROSSO' ALTEA ILLOTTO DESCRIPTION

Altea Illotto 'Altea Rosso' represents a genuine and authentic Sardinian expression, produced from a blend of only native varieties. The Altea Illotto winery is located in Serdiana, in the province of Cagliari, an area lovingly cultivated by the husband and wife Maurizio Altea and Adele Illotto, from whose union of surnames the name of the estate was derived. In this wild land beaten by the sun and sea winds, the vineyards are surrounded by mugwort and wild fennel plants, as well as the typical Sardinian macchia consisting of myrtle, lentisk and wild olive trees.

The Sardinian 'Altea Rosso' wine from the artisanal winery Altea Illotto is made from a blend of Cannonau, Monica, Carignano and Barbera Sarda, the latter also called Bovali Mannu. These local varieties are cultivated according to organic farming principles at about 170 metres above sea level, on white soils consisting mainly of marl and clay. Harvesting is carried out entirely by hand and in the cellar, alcoholic fermentation is carried out exclusively by indigenous yeasts in steel tanks. The ensuing maturation period of a few months also takes place in steel and the wine is finally bottled without undergoing any clarification or filtration.

Altea Illotto Sibiola 'Altea Rosso' possesses a ruby red colour with garnet highlights. Aromatically evocative in its perceptions of sour cherry, black cherry and wild berries that blend with intense hints of Mediterranean scrub and aromatic herbs. Marine and ethereal notes close the olfactory context. The taste is confirmed in the rich and complex Mediterranean hints, supported by good structure, soft tannins and energetic savouriness. A red wine capable of combining concentration and excellent drinkability.

When to open
To enjoy an artisanal wine at its best, we recommend you to let it 'breathe' at least 15-30 minutes before serving
When to drink
Wine good to drink now, but that can have a beautiful evolution after resting for a while in your cellar
Glass
Medium open goblet
Perfect for young and medium bodied red wines which don't require excessive oxygenation to open. The opening, slightly tighter than the body of the glass, favors the concentration of aromas towards the nose, enhancing the perception of aromas and limiting the dispersion
Longevity
You can easily cellar it for 4-5 years
