SAUVIGNON FERLAT 2021 DESCRIPTION

Sauvignon from the Friulian winery Ferlat represents a white wine with a typically varietal character in its herbaceous sensations and distinctly fresh taste. Like other international grape varieties, Sauvignon Blanc was imported to Friuli-Venezia Giulia in the 19th century, when the territory was dominated by the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The characteristics that this semi-aromatic variety takes on in the Region differ from those it displays in Loire, Bordeaux or New Zealand, its areas of choice. In fact, in Friuli it tends to give wines with herbaceous aromas, usually with a more pronounced softness of flavour.

Ferlat's Friulian Sauvignon is an expression of pure Sauvignon Blanc from vines cultivated according to the principles of certified organic agriculture. The grapes come from two distinct clones, a French variety harvested slightly early and an Italian variety harvested later. The grapes are destemmed and crushed, with 48 hours of contact between must and skins. This is followed by soft pressing, limiting contact with oxygen, and then by spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled steel tanks, trying to avoid malolactic fermentation so as to safeguard the freshness of the finished wine. Elevation takes place for a few months on fine lees, also in steel.

Ferlat Sauvignon Blanc has a straw-yellow colour with greenish highlights. Hints of exotic fruit, elderflower, grapefruit, white flowers and passion fruit emerge on the nose, together with herbaceous notes reminiscent of boxwood and tomato leaf. Fresh and slender on the palate, with a definite mineral vein. A pleasantly aromatic Sauvignon, with great smoothness and lasting persistence.
