MANNA FRANZ HAAS 2020 DESCRIPTION

"Manna" is a white wine from South Tyrol produced by the Franz Haas winery, crafted from five grape varieties typical of the region. It possesses a rich, multifaceted personality that is ready to surprise. For this reason, Franz Haas dedicated it to his wife, Maria Luisa Manna, from the first vintage in 1995. The Franz Haas winery is located in Montagna, in the Bolzano province. Its vineyards span altitudes from 240 to 1150 meters, allowing them to produce refined and long-lasting wines. The labels of the bottles produced by this significant winemaking establishment are noteworthy: they are created by the artist Riccardo Schweizer, who in the past collaborated with giants like Picasso, Chagall, Cocteau, and Le Corbusier.

The white wine "Manna" is crafted from five different grape varieties: Riesling, Chardonnay, Aromatic Traminer, Sauvignon, and a small percentage of Kerner. These grapes come from various vineyards at altitudes between 350 and 800 meters. Consequently, variations in the soils and microclimates lead to staggered ripening periods for the grapes. As a result, they are vinified separately, according to the variety. Chardonnay and Sauvignon undergo alcoholic fermentation in barriques, while Riesling, Kerner, and Traminer ferment in stainless steel tanks. Once the fermentation phase is complete, the wines are blended according to the best combination and left to rest on the lees for about ten months. Following this maturation period, the wine is bottled and allowed to rest in the bottle for a few months before being released to the market.

Franz Haas' Manna is a wine with the capacity to evolve. In its youth, it presents with intense shades of pale yellow, which, after a few years, transition to a brilliant golden hue. It has a concentrated and penetrating aroma, featuring a layered complexity that opens up to fruity and floral notes of elderflower and rose petals, with hints of dried fruit that become more pronounced over time. The palate is smooth, full-bodied, and very refined and fresh. It is long-lasting and dynamic, adorned with understated elegance. It is no coincidence that it was dedicated to a woman, bearing her name as a sign of loving devotion.
