ARINTO 'TERRA BRUM' ADEGA DO VULCAO 2018 DESCRIPTION

The Arinto 'Terra Brum' of Adega do Vulcão is a label that is the result of a selection of some particularly valuable plots of the estate, which are located in the Solar Terra Brum vineyard in Areia Larga, on the island of Pico. This is a historic estate, created by the former owner Morgado José Francisco da Terra Brum at the end of the 18th century, when he began cultivating vines in the area between Areia Larga and São Mateus. It is a wine of great charm, rich and intense, representing the history of viticulture in this area and highlighting its absolute expressive excellence.

"Terra Brum' Arinto is the fruit of a unique terroir. The Adega do Vulcão estate is located in the Azores islands, in the centre of the North Atlantic. It is a project born from the love for this land of an Italian couple, who decided to dedicate themselves to artisanal viticulture in a place of extraordinary natural beauty. The cuvée is the result of a balanced blend of three ancient indigenous grape varieties: the majority percentage of Arinto is completed by a small balance of Verdelho and Terrantêz do Pico. The grapes come from vineyards, some of them very old, that are rooted in soils of volcanic origin, composed of sand and lava rocks. The very draining, mineral-rich soils and the Atlantic climate, which is cool and always very windy, provide an ideal habitat for the white varieties, which ripen with very intense aromas. After the harvest, the grapes are gently pressed and fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled cement tanks. Before bottling, the wine matures for about two years in cement.

The Arinto 'Terra Brum' wine, from the Portuguese winery Adega do Vulcão, is dedicated to those who love long-lived, mature and evolved whites, capable of expressing an elegant range of tertiary aromas, which enhance the aromatic bouquet of the grape varieties. It presents itself in a luminous light yellow with golden reflections. The olfactory picture is broad and rich, with notes of bitter orange peel, aromas of ripe yellow-fleshed fruit, hints of dried fruit, delicately spiced and iodised notes. Characterized by a good structure, a broad, harmonious and aromatically dense sip, the wine lengthens with notable taste persistence, towards a fresh and pleasantly saline finish.
