VESPA BIANCO BASTIANICH 2018 DESCRIPTION

The Vespa Bianco from the Bastianich winery represents a Friulian label capable of enveloping the senses with its softness and fragrance. In 1997, the famous Italo-American showman Joe Bastianich decided to buy a wine estate in his mother Lidia's homeland. The aim is to propose a production of excellent quality that reflects the noble territory of the Colli Orientali del Friuli, while seeking a balanced and clean style, of which this bottle is the emblem. The skilful blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Picolit combines the elegance of the first, the freshness and aromaticity of the second and the glyceric roundness of the third. The name 'Vespa' refers to the insects that inhabit the vineyards when the grapes reach full ripeness.

Bastianich Vespa Bianco is a blend of Chardonnay (45%) and Sauvignon Blanc (45%), with a small percentage of Picolit (10%). The grapes come from vineyards in Buttrio and Premariacco, which benefit from soils rich in calcareous marl (ponca) with mixed rock and clay. After harvesting, specific to each variety, and careful sorting, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented separately, half in steel and the remaining half in 500 and 4000 litre oak casks. The one-year ageing always takes place between steel tanks and wood on the fine lees. Following bottling, the wine rests for at least another 12 months.

In the glass, the Friulian white Vespa from Bastianich Winery reveals a beautiful intense straw yellow colour. The nose is rich and vivid with aromas of ripe pear and apricot that combine with perceptions of wild flowers and honey. On the palate, it is elegant and soft, with bright freshness, persuasive minerality and lasting persistence. A refined interpretation of amazing longevity, ideal when paired with elaborate white meat or various fish dishes.
